This fitness center, tucked into the basement of a downtown San Jose high-rise, is a testament to purposeful and modern design. With blackened steel panels, raw concrete surfaces, and strategically integrated lighting, the space creates a dynamic atmosphere of strength and focus. Minimalistic touches of color energize the environment, inspiring motivation and intensity, while maintaining a clean and industrial aesthetic. The thoughtful layout maximizes functionality, offering an intuitive flow between workout zones while emphasizing a sense of openness despite its underground location. Every element is meticulously designed to foster peak performance, creating a space where form and function seamlessly converge.
This project was completed during Shahab’s time at Modulus.
The design employs a palette of raw concrete, glass, and sleek finishes, selected for their modern durability and ability to convey a bold, industrial aesthetic. The fitness lab’s clean lines and understated materiality provide a striking backdrop for the illuminated branding and geometric lighting, which punctuate the space with dynamic energy.
This seamless integration of recessed LED lighting defines the floor, wall, and soffit with a sensor-activated glow, adding a modern edge and accentuating the spatial geometry
This yoga studio reimagines a serene connection to nature by incorporating a unique skylight-inspired ceiling. The ceiling design mimics the effect of sunlight pouring into the space, creating a warm, inviting ambiance reminiscent of practicing under an open sky.
