Envisioned as a place for quiet reflection and immersive connection with the natural world, the project sits on the edge of one of California’s most iconic coastlines, where the mountains meet the Pacific Ocean.

The concept began with a dream—a retreat for a couple deeply connected to the land and sea, who wanted a home that embraced both elements without overpowering them. They sought a place to escape the pressures of their fast-paced city lives, where the architecture would serve as an extension of the natural environment, amplifying the raw beauty of Big Sur.

The house, with its low-slung, linear form, mirrors the contours of the landscape, blending effortlessly into the wild terrain. The roof, clad in native grasses and coastal vegetation, appears as though it’s part of the earth itself, softening the lines of the structure. When viewed from a distance, the home seems to disappear into the horizon, offering a quiet contrast to the dramatic cliffs and crashing waves below.

The home’s orientation maximizes both privacy and the movement of natural light. Each room captures the subtle shifts in the coastal light, from the soft amber of early morning to the deep gold of sunset, creating a living painting that evolves with the day.
